I have been in model railroading since the early 1950’s. Several years ago I offered to build some double switches for a friends layout. Needless to say the first switch did not go well because of cross bracing under the roadbed. Working upside down, I found my eyesight could not focus accurately in the dark undersides of the layout to hook up the micro switches needed for power routing of all track circuits. Since that time, I have been experimenting with ways to build the switch on a work bench, complete with motors and wiring. I am about to complete the final process in creating the jig that will allow the construction of slip switches with a high degree of detail. The switch can easily be dropped into an opening in the road bed to create complex track patterns seen in large passenger terminals and simplify wiring of all electrical connections.
